My Story

Michaela Day
I am a fashion designer from Brick, New Jersey.

My design range allows me to remain openminded and adaptable in the ever changing world of fashion. I am mainly inspired by history, film, and the human experience.
I am passionate about education and improving the community through dressing.
My style is multidimensional, leaving room for humor and play but also seriousness and structure.
My favorite part of the design process is doing the in depth research. I love learning about new topics and expanding my fashion knowledge. My love for learning allows me to be an adaptable and timely problem-solver. I pride myself on efficiency and growth.

That's me!
2000s
I grew up crafting with my sister and cousins. My mom always encouraged us to problem-solve and create. We used whatever supplies we had in the house to make budget art, toys, and inventions. I also became a knitter at age 12 among the many crafting crazes of the early 2000s.
2007-2017
I am a second-degree black belt in Paul Prendergast Karate and owe much of my work ethic to my over 13 years of practice there.

The first clothing item I ever designed was a pair of karate shorts when I was 10-years-old.
I noticed students hiking up there pants to practice kicks and thought karate shorts would be the solution.

2018
At 16-years-old, I began my journey at Ocean County Vocational Technical School.
March 2017, I got my first fashion win, which was the start of a year long winning streak in all my endeavors.

February 2018, I won the most validating award possible and got a Four-Year, Full Tuition Scholarship for Jefferson University's Fashion Design Program.
2018-2022
At Jefferson University, I traveled to Paris to study abroad, immersed myself in the New York fashion industry, and had the opportunity to participate in many scholarship competitions.

Here is where my creativity blossomed. The comradery at Jefferson fostered teamwork and healthy competition.

While taking up these opportunities, I also worked as a Resident Assistant Manager and an Event Coordinator for Designers Supporting Designers. These roles continued my leadership journey and helped build a community at Jefferson University.

Moving Forward

One year since graduating, I've interned for Anna Sui while working retail, competed as a top 10 finalist in the Sakura International Fashion Competition, and finally landed a job as an Assistant Designer at NYC Alliance.

While working NYC Alliance, I continued to look for new and exciting opportunities such as designing accessories for vocalist, Gina Zo, to wear to the Grammys.

This opportunity led me to my current position as an Assistant Accessories Designer at Fownes Bros.

My future goals include dressing more icons like Gina Zo and designing accessories that inspire personal style.
